On December 4, 2012, the first broadcast email was sent to you, advising of a consultation process that would be undertaken by Ms. Shirley R. Nakata (Ombudsperson for Students at the Vancouver campus), and Ms. Nitya Iyer (practicing lawyer at Lovett Westmacott, and former Associate Professor in the Faculty of Law, UBC Vancouver).
The term of Vice President, Human Resources, Lisa Castle comes to an end on March 31, 2013. I have determined that I will consider Ms. Castle’s reappointment. A committee has been established to make a recommendation to the Board of Governors concerning the possible reappointment of Ms. Castle.
On October 22, 2012 an announcement was sent advising of the retirement of Tom Patch, Associate Vice President, Equity, at the end of this year. We had planned to develop a consultation process that would allow for input across the UBC community on organizational changes necessary to strengthen the role and support of equity and diversity at the University.
UBC is engaged in an initiative that is considering proposals for restructuring competitive arrangements in Canadian interuniversity athletics. You are invited to share your perspectives and advice on the proposals and questions in a preliminary report from this initiative.
Consultation about the UBC Community Engagement Strategic Plan is underway – a discussion paper and the website www.communityengagement.ubc.ca are available for students, staff, faculty and community partners to explore the community engagement commitments in the Place and Promise UBC plan.
